| Malachai |
Small, reoccurring |
(Male, mid-20s.) Once a promising cultural anthropology student at the University of Kansas, Malachai became obsessed with local cult activity and has unfortunately fallen down the rabbit hole into the darkness he was studying. Most of his former personality and intellect has been eroded by many months of isolation, paranoia, drug use, fear, hunger, and exposure to supernatural forces he cannot comprehend. He is now a burned-out shell of a young man, twitchy, disoriented, and fragmented. His voice is filled with nervous energy, confusion, and moments of unsettling intensity. |
|
| Remy |
Medium, reoccurring |
(Male, 24) Remy is a younger, smaller guy, and somewhat socially awkward from being isolated from others. He's best friends with Selena and holds a great deal of affection for her. He can be a little quick to say off-handed comments because most people simply do not hear them. Otherwise, he's bright but somewhat reserved. In certain situations, he panics — he has some PTSD with dark, confined locations and will have a nervous, frantic energy in those moments. |
|
| Anjanette |
Medium, reoccurring |
(Female, African American, 27) Anjanette is Casey Krieg's grounded, no-nonsense girlfriend. She's strong-willed, passionate, and unafraid to speak her mind… especially when it comes to calling Casey out on his choices. She is a voice of reason who cares deeply but who won't sugarcoat the truth when it's time to speak out. Her voice should convey warmth and strength and concern. |
|
| Hilda Bauer |
Small, maybe single |
(Female, Caucasian, German, 87) Hilda is Madison's elderly grandmother, a resilient woman whose family has lived on their Kansas Farm for nearly a century. She speaks with a noticeable German accent. To some, she might seem eccentric, but she is sharp, wise, and holds dearly to her beliefs. Hilda is superstitious and wary of things both seen and unseen. Her voice should reflect age and experience, firm and occasionally frail, but always with conviction. German accent required. |
|
| Madison Bauer |
Small, reoccurring |
(Female, Caucasian, 19) Madison is a bright, outgoing young adult full of teenage curiosity and energy. She takes care of her elderly grandmother, Hilda, showing maturity and responsibility beyond her years, but she's still very much a teen… inquisitive, talkative, full of rapid-fire questions. Her voice should capture that mix of youthful enthusiasm with a natural conversational tone to make her likable and relatable. Not above sarcasm. |
|
| Isobel |
Small, reoccurring |
(Female, 35) Isobel is smart, confident, and a leader of sorts. Overall, she's a dark soul, with serious nihilistic thoughts and principles, and leads a group of people who share her beliefs (but don't call it a cult!). She grew up in the back woods of Missouri Ozarks, with an abusive preacher father—she likely has worked to get rid of the Ozark twang in her voice, but it may come out at times. She knows more than you and knows it, and is usually calm, collected, cold—and every once in a while, her coldness turns ice cold, sharp, dangerous. |
|
| Selena |
Major, reoccurring |
(Female, 27) Selena is a complex mix of warmth and darkness. With people her age (or strangers), she may come across as distant and cold with an intensity that demands attention. Beneath the surface there are some deep scars and a history shaped by a brush with something unnatural. Selena has had a lifelong fascination (and interaction) with the supernatural, though only Remy knows this. When she's working with Professor Zinn she's warmer, confident, seems more approachable. And when she's with Remy she has more of a big-sister vibe with him—caring, warm, concerned. Her voice should be confident, but it can also be strong and intense. She has a brightness and a curiosity that emerges when discussing subjects that interest her. To those not close to her she can seem cold and detached, but there's always a sense that she knows more than she's willing to say. She takes charge when she needs to. |

| Prof. Leo Zinn |
Major, reoccurring |
(Male, Caucasian, 73) Prof. Zinn is a Midwesterner by birth and a seasoned academic at the University of Kansas who holds a PhD in cultural anthropology. He has spent many decades exploring folklore, mythology, and the supernatural, while keeping much of his research and findings from the public eye. His voice should carry the weight of his years and the wisdom of a lifetime spent in study, blending authority and quiet intensity with a trace of weariness from his failing health… but it is strengthened by sharp intellect and an unwavering curiosity. Even though he has studied many dark things, he is generally a positive, upbeat person. |
|
| Ava |
Small, reoccurring |
(Female, 20s to 30s) Ava has experienced a rather traumatic event in the past month, something that seemed quite supernatural. On top of that she has lost a couple of friends as part of it all, and she herself is a bit lost in the trauma and grief. Beyond that she's a bright woman, active, generally successful. |
